Internal Locks: The Essence of Jalandhara, Uddiyana and Mula Bandha

Friday, December 16th

4:30 – 7:30 PM

Bandhas are what you could refer to as “old school” yoga. Outlined in the ancient yoga text The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, bandhas have been around long before any of our contemporary yoga styles took shape. Considered both a form of mudra (ritual gesture) as well as internal muscular locks, bandhas marry the subtle body with the gross body and the internal anatomy to the cerebral brain. This workshop will include a review of the location and function of the three most practiced bandhas and ways to incorporate them into asana practice. Come on an empty stomach. Not appropriate for pregnant women.

The Great Revolution: Twisting Postures

Saturday, December 17th

8 – 10 AM

Most of us are pretty stagnant in our midsection (you might have even forgotten you have a midsection). This practice will remind you, vigorously, of the power of your side body and core (meaning center of the body) muscles. Utilizing classical parivrtta postures from Light on Yoga along with some contemporary takes on the old standbys, this practice will wring out your sullen torso and potentially make you a few inches taller. Come on an empty stomach. Not appropriate for pregnant women.

Boston Yoga School + O Yoga Teacher Training Info Session

Saturday, December 17th

10:15 – 10:45 AM

Ame will be in Syracuse for a weekend of workshops December 16-17, 2016.  This info session will take place after her Saturday morning workshop “The Great Revolution: Twisting Postures” and is a great opportunity to experience Ame’s style of teaching and get your questions answered regarding the upcoming Boston Yoga School + O Yoga 200-hour yoga teacher training program.

O Yoga Studio and Boston Yoga School have teamed up to offer a 200-hour training program that is unlike anything else you will find in Central New York!  You will have access to some of Boston and NYC’s finest yoga teachers right here in Syracuse. This program is for more than just the aspiring yoga teacher, it’s for anyone in a transition, looking for direction, or simply searching for a deeper understanding of yoga and their practice. Teacher trainees will become part of a community of like-minded yogis looking to evolve their own personal practice and well-being.

Join us for the workshop with Ame and stay for the info session, or just stop in for the info session at 10:15am! You will have an opportunity to speak with Ame & Tiffany who direct the program as well as graduates of our previous  200 hour program to hear from them about their experience.

Alignment & Anatomy Refresher for Yoga Teachers & Teachers in Training

Saturday, December 17th

11:30 AM – 3:30 PM

This workshop is for the yoga teachers out there who need a thorough reconnect with the point & purpose of asana. Why are we doing these poses? What do they actually teach the students? Through practice, lecture, partner work and skeletal study, we will review the baseline postures and what their primary and secondary actions are (read: the point) while also revisiting some fundamental human anatomy. Because anatomical asana ideas change frequently, we will also look at how things were once taught and how the study of biomechanics suggests we teach them a different way. Come as an investment in your own practice and your students.
