Super Food Smoothie

Posted in Blog

If you live in New England, you may be transitioning out of smoothie season. However, even in the wintertime, smoothies are an excellent way to get vitamins, antioxidants and protein at the same time. I never add ice to my smoothies, which means they are slightly less cold and easier for your body to digest. They are also a great on-the-go food (get an iced coffee travel cup). I add chia seeds to all my smoothies because they are high in omega-3 and have little flavor, so they don’t compete with whatever else you’ve added. Below is my go-to smoothie. When fresh berries are in season, substitute for the frozen berries and freeze the banana instead. The maca and the cacao are both superfoods, a category of foods found in nature that are low-calorie but nutrient-dense.

 1 banana

¾ cup frozen berries (I typically use strawberries or blueberries)

1 tbsp cacao powder

1 tbsp maca powder

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp raw almond butter

1 cup unsweetened vanilla hemp milk

Combine all ingredients in a vita-mix or strong blender until smooth.
